In this book we find a young girl, Jillian, and her three friends in challenging and unusual circumstances. Through their many adventures they learn helpful lessons. This is an engaging and well-written story than should be of interest to a young person.

Jillian Dangerous and the Extraordinary Secret – The Faith Walk Edition is an excellent follow-up to Jillian Dangerous and the Peculiar Adventure! Jillian, Meg, Sadie, and Sam must find their way back from 1965 to the current day. They try many ways, one that has some very catastrophic results. Jillian continues to keep her secret but has to determine if that is what God wants. In this story, you see the girls’ friendship deepen, and they mature. Their love for one another is also evident, especially as the war nears and their desperation to return to their beloved Crest International intensifies.

Ruth Davis continues to build on the world she created in the first book in Jillian Dangerous and the Peculiar Adventure. It is a believable world with relatable and engaging characters. Their adventures increase in intensity, as does their faith. Ruth Davis is very successful in weaving scripture into the story in a way that makes sense and adds to the structure of the story and the characters. The Jillian Dangerous series is one that I recommend to any middle schooler.

Davis pens a wonderful story in Jillian Dangerous and the Extraordinary Secret. I have read the previous book in this series, and I really enjoyed it, and this one was enjoyable as well. There is a great chemistry between the characters, and a depth that makes them realistic and flawed. This author’s characters develop and interacts well with the other characters. I have fast become a big fan of Davis. The author’s technique of evolving, realistic characters and great plotlines is a gift. Love this story. Jillian Dangerous is a great character, and if the author writes more about her, I will definitely read it. Magnificent story, kept this reader turning the pages. I look forward to reading more by this author. This book is a definite recommendation by Amy’s Bookshelf Reviews.

In this charming story, the young character’s voice is clear and true, and the plot always interesting. I enjoyed the Vietnam background – very different, and a strong part of the story. I hadn’t read the first book in the series, but I had no trouble diving right in to this unusual yet well-crafted work. I was always involved with the characters and situation. I must add that the “what God wants” desire on the part of the protagonist – obviously a theme of the series – added charm to the story and was sweet but a bit naive as no one can know the mind of God. Even so, that aspect was perfectly in keeping with the character’s age, her faith something to admire, and even though I don’t agree with that, it was consistent and honest, and I enjoyed and liked the character and her story.

I am not sure what I was expecting with a title like Jillian Dangerous and the… I’ll admit I don’t usually look for a good read in the children’s section but this one really got my attention. I actually want to go back to read the first book to see how this all started. I know as a Christian author I sometimes find it difficult to work in scripture references but this was good, relevant, intriguing and fun all the way through. I just downloaded the first book to see how this all started. Other reviews indicate that the target age group loves it. I appreciate the Bible interaction.
