All Jillian Cassidy ever wanted was an exciting adventure. But she never expected one like this.

After months of being bullied, Jillian has had enough. Determined to get away from her gloomy, friendless life, she convinces her parents to let her go to a boarding school across the world. She can’t wait for the amazing adventures she hopes to have there.

But before she can, she and her three roommates are thrown back in time to 1965 Vietnam. Trapped more than fifty years in the past, Jillian, Sam, Meg, and Sadie must figure out how to return home—before they get stuck for good.

In this gripping tale, Jillian discovers true friendship, tackles her challenges, and harnesses the Bible’s power to provide solutions and courage for even greater adventures to come.

I loved that Jillian was able to set an example to young Believers to trust God in their struggles. Our little hero of the story was quite brave and inspiring and despite the things I disliked about the book, I must admit I absolutely loved the spiritual side of the story. I don’t read children’s fiction very often so I didn’t know what to expect when it came to how Davis would include her faith in her writing. As I read, I thought it was incredible to see a child’s view of God and their walk with Christ. In many ways, Jillian was stronger than some of the adult Christians I know!

I would recommend this book to parents and children who like adventure, friendship, and growth. This story will be appreciated most by Christian readers.

The book is well written and full of adventure and suspense. Adolescents and teens would find it quite readable and relevant to the challenges and emotions they face. The element of time travel adds an interesting appeal to the imagination.

As a pastor for forty years, I often felt inadequate when dealing with Jr High School aged students. During those years I would have been grateful for a book like ‘Jillian Dangerous and the Peculiar Adventure.’ Facing issues like bullying, abuse, and spiritual warfare in the context of a story that is fast-paced and packed with adventure (appropriate adventures for that age group) is what this book accomplishes. The author uses scripture throughout to help encourage her readers who are going through their own personal adventures, while they learn to trust in God and His ever-present help. A great gift for young people.

Faith is the highest form of a spiritual journey. Most of us have no idea what it is, and it doesn’t help when the priest in the church talks about it. Mostly the opposite is happening – we are avoiding going there again. Faith is what’s left when most illusions are gone. Faith is the capacity to grasp the idea of something larger – a bigger picture of what’s happening. Jillian’s story beautifully illustrates this.

Would be happy to recommend this book to old and young alike. Well-written, suspenseful, intriguing and full of insights, this book will keep you engaged to the end. Great characters that you root for and relate to with ease, plus a little time-travel thrown in make this a story you won’t want to put down.

Excellent faith-building story. In Jillian Dangerous and the Peculiar Adventure – The Faith Walk Edition, Ruth Davis creates characters that are relatable, believable, and lovable. Jillian is a young girl who is a very happy person until she begins to attend middle school in her new home town. There Jillian meets Maddie, a stone-cold bully who makes her life miserable. For the first time in her life, Jillian loses confidence in who she is and affects her in an intensely negative way. Her experiences in school made me so sad as there are so many children that endure this type of bullying. Jillian’s parents see that they must do something and grant her wish to send her to Crest International, a school her mother attended when she was a child, except then it was called Crest Academy. Jillian makes fast friends with Meg, Sam, and Sadie. The three of them end up on an unintended and very suspenseful adventure.

Jillian Dangerous and the Peculiar Adventure – The Faith Walk Edition is an excellent book for young people. They see someone just like them learning to talk to God about all of their problems and thank Him for their triumphs. Most importantly, they see someone just like them learn to trust the plan that God has for their life. In all of that, there is a lot of fun, remarkable adventures, many lessons learned, and lots of love.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Davis pens a remarkable story in Jillian Dangerous and the Peculiar Adventure. I haven’t read anything from this author before, and I really enjoyed this work. The characters were incredible and very developed. They fit in the story perfectly, even when they were transported back in time. The author’s writing style is engaging and definitely fits this story. This author brings the story to life. There is a great chemistry between the characters, and a depth that makes them realistic and flawed. The story brings in the believable, even if almost impossible. This book deserves a second read! (and maybe more).A very well-written story, and I enjoyed it. This story was intriguing and kept the reader guessing. I look forward to reading more by this author. This book is highly recommended by Amy’s Bookshelf Reviews.

  9. Julia Clem

I love that this children’s book contains elements of historical fiction. The author’s inclusion of facts and culture from Vietnam really enhanced the story. Throw in time travel, a relatable underdog proganosist and plenty of adventure and you have a really compelling story that reader’s of all ages will enjoy. This is a great series for families to get into, as there will be plenty to talk about!

I think this is a very good book. There is a lot of fun and suspense, which I like. I also like how the author has created the characters to be very relatable. This book is exactly my level, and I love it! This book has many fun bits, as well as sad and exciting pieces. I also like that the friends are not perfect, as no one is perfect. I recommend this book for 8- to 12-year-olds who like a bit of adventure.
